Well, we can start considering January 7th a national holiday because from now on because it marks the date of one of the most anticipated births in hip-hop history. If you haven’t checked your Twitter account or listened to the news in the past couple of days, then we’ll be the ones to tell you: Music power couple Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z welcomed their own pint-sized diva, Blue Ivy Carter, this past Saturday night. Sorry, Suri, your relevance just plummeted…because shortly after baby Blue’s birth in New York City at Lenox Hill Hospital (where Jay-Z reportedly rented out an entire floor to ensure his growing family’s privacy), the Twittersphere exploded with congratulations from the couple’s famous friends, all wishing them and little Blue the best. And we bet some of those friends will soon be making trips to the Big Apple to visit the bouncing bundle of joy. But where are these celebs to stay? Don’t worry, Kanye, we found the perfect hotel for you. And you too, Gwyneth. We scoured the city and found hotels suited to each of the couple’s besties, no matter his or her style.

Scarlett Johansson Steps Out of The Plaza Hotel

Humberto Carreno/startraksphoto.com

Movie star Scarlett Johansson is in New York supporting Manhattan Borough President and expected mayoral candidate Scott Stringer. She hosted a fundraiser for him last night at The Plaza, where tickets cost between $2,500 and $10,000. Afterwards, she threw a party downtown at the Jane Hotel, where tickets went for $50 to $1,000.

Over the summer, Johansson and Stringer sat down for coffee at the Carlyle Hotel to casually discuss the future of New York City. Having grown up in New York City, both feel strongly about food policy, the environment and education issues.

Entrance at The Plaza

Fashion Week is about to descend upon us (and by “us,” I mean the city of New York) again — but this time, all of the designers, models, and celebrities (and the media frenzy that follows) will swarm around Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center instead of Bryant Park, where the iconic, white-tented event had previously been held since 1994. For this year’s Fall 2010 Fashion Week (which, confusingly, was held in February), we brought you six Fashion Week hotels to suit your style. But we expect that your style may have changed since then, so we have prepared a new list of hotels that will fit your fancy for September’s Spring 2011 Fashion Week. And if you like what you see, book with us! Read More »

Classic poutine: french fries topped with gravy and cheese curds

Classic poutine: French fries topped with gravy and cheese curds

It remains unclear whether it’s the hearty ingredients, the kitsch factor, the maple syrup or something else, but New York’s latest ethnic food boomlet comes from our nearest neighbors. Here are three new spots to sample Manhattan’s new take on Canadian cuisine.

T Poutine: Forget hot dogs and pizza. The Lower East Side party set has a new late-night, soak-up-the-alcohol snack. Poutine is a French Canadian specialty that consists of French fries topped with cheese curds and gravy, served here with gut-busting extras like ground beef and bacon. Someone call the cardiologist. This BYOB joint is open ’til 5am on weekends, and a quick walk from the Thompson LES on Allen Street. 168 Ludlow St.

The Plaza Upper East Side

The Plaza

[Oyster]

New York’s obsession with everything Gossip Girl has helped turn the sometimes stodgy Upper East Side into a destination for more than just polo aficionados and old-money matriarchs. But after shopping Madison Avenue’s boutiques, hobnobbing at the Neue Gallery, and dining at Daniel, where should you stay? These three hotels are your best bets. Read More »
