Take a few scoops of ice cream, add in some milk, maybe some syrup, and blend… the recipe for a milkshake couldn’t be any simpler. So why do so few places get them right?
We don’t know exactly, but in the meantime, the places listed below know their way around a blender. They produce thick, frothy elixirs, perfect for sating thirst or filling you up when you’ve missed a meal.
brgr
What brgr is missing in vowels, it makes up for in taste. All milkshakes use ingredients from the excellent Ronnybrook Dairy, a sustainable, family-owned farm in upstate New York. In addition to vanilla and strawberry, brgr mixes up a black and white (half vanilla with chocolate syrup) and a blueberry-pomegranate. The Chelsea location is at 287 Seventh Avenue, close to the Eventi hotel, while the recently opened Upper East Side location is at 1026 3rd Avenue. The Loews Miami Beach Hotel is home to one of Miami's best ice cream parlors
When Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month back in 1984, it seems he had sun-drenched summer afternoons on South Beach in mind. And while July sadly slipped away too quickly, you’ll be happy to know that you can still enjoy these top ice cream spots all summer long.
1. The Loews Hotel has long enjoyed a reputation as a kid-friendly resort with SoBe Kids Camp poolside activities, Nintendo Wii game consoles, and a teen hideaway done up in Pottery Barn brights. That’s why the latest addition of a nifty 1950s-styled ice cream bar called SoBe Scoops makes it that much cooler for guests looking to beat the heat and celebrate the season. Executive Pastry Chef Renee Contee is creating whimsical custom flavors daily and filling out the menu with a limited selection of hand-crafted Graeter’s of Cincinatti options and plain old Häagen-Dazs as well. The shop also spins up fresh cotton candy, cookies, and sweet treats from 11am until 11pm. 1601 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach.

Hot dog topped with spicy onions & sauerkraut from Gray's Papaya
When visitors think of fast food in New York City, they often think of two things: pizza and hot dogs. And man do we have an awesome selection of both. As a New Yorker, I am not leery about grabbing a “dirty dog” from the corner vendor, or a messy slice from the local pizza joint down the block. But if you’re just visiting – especially with kids – it might be best to check out some of “must-try’s” that have earned an especially good reputation. Here are some of the best hot dog spots the city has to offer (in ascending order from cheapest to priciest):
Gray’s Papaya – This is a local favorite and can be found almost anywhere in the city (my favorite happens to be located in the cool area of 6th Avenue and 8th Street). These dogs are not only delicious, but also served with a friendly smile and very inexpensive. Two of these babies and a drink will only set you back $2.00 a person. On the streets of Manhattan, that’s pretty hard to beat!
