Safari

We’ve be dreaming about our time in Botswana ever since we left the safari paradise — not only was wildlife spotting an awesome experience, but the &Beyond Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp proved to have some seriously luxe digs to offer, too. Glamping (a.k.a. a luxury experience in an outdoorsy, camp-inspired setting) has become a seriously popular travel pastime, so we visited Botswana for the ultimate in the experience. Located in the remote Okavango Delta, the “resort” offers spacious tents with plush beds, food that’s rather divine, and all the wildlife you could possibly dream of seeing in a safari setting. But this photo tickled us quite a bit. Had us bellyachin’, if you will. Check out what we had to say after the jump, then enter your own caption in the comments section below!

The Academy Awards were held in the Kodak Theatre. Los Angeles, CA

The Academy Awards were held in the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

This past Sunday night, we got to see a lot of thrilled winners climb the steps to the stage and accept little golden statues. But we saw even more stars fake smile and clap as they watched the other guy beat them out and take home the trophy. “It’s an honor just to be nominated” doesn’t quite soften the blow (it’s more like adding salt to the wound). But something that will lessen the heartache? A getaway. The losers from Sunday night should pack their bags, cut their losses, and get some R&R in a place far away from Hollywood. It’ll give them time to recoup — and it may be just what they need to be able to act their hearts out in their next film (the one they’ll be nominated and win for). We found the perfect spot for each Oscar-nominated star to put their feet up and relax. Check ‘em out after the jump >>

Foto Friday: Into Africa

by Zach on February 24, 2012

When it comes to natural beauty, the entire African continent is worlds apart from anywhere else on Earth. That’s why we had such a hard time putting down our cameras when we visited Botswana: the super remote & Beyond Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp provided some of the best scenery we’ve ever seen from start to finish (reaching the resort is an adventure in itself). Sure, beaches can be gorgeous, but watching the sunset over the African wilderness is an entirely different kind of breathtaking.

This ultra-remote, luxurious safari lodge on an island in Botswana’s Okavango Delta isn’t a hotel, it’s an experience, where everything — including the excellent food and the guided excursions (game drives, bush walks, river cruises) — is included in the price of the stay. The &Beyond chain specializes in “glamping,” nicknamed as such for it’s blend of glamorous accommodations within rustic, natural settings, and the Delta Camp lodge is one of its best offerings. Guests can get up close to exotic wildlife (think: lions and hippos) on both land and water, and even arriving to the property is an adventure, requiring transport by small plane, safari vehicle, and a boat. After a day’s excursion, the small group of guests returns to a tasty Pan-African meal before turning in to the nine safari tents, which are fully screened in and thoroughly high-end, with huge soaking tubs, four-poster beds, lots of wood, and private pools.
