Gem Hotel SoHo

Radegast Hall & Biergarten in Brooklyn is a great spot for warm-weather drinking.

With the temperatures rising, now is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy a drink (or twelve). And there’s no place better to mix booze and sunshine than at one of the Big Apple’s many excellent outdoor beer gardens. These fun spots will have you raising an oversized stein to good times with good friends — over (one too many) good beers.

Lorely Restaurant & Biergarten: It doesn’t get any more German than Lorely. Located on the Lower East Side, this truly authentic old-school beer garden looks like a piece of Bavaria landed in the Big Apple. From the frosty imported German brew to the delicious German grub, Lorely is legit. This brewhouse even had its tables made by a designer in Cologne. 7 Rivington Street. Stay nearby at the GEM Hotel SoHo.

Whiskey Ward bar in New York City

Whiskey Ward bar in NYC's Lower East Side

Whether you like it on the rocks, with a little soda, cold, or warm, there is nothing better than a good glass of whiskey (or whisky, as Scots seem to prefer). New York City is home to a plethora of wonderful booze locales that serve up a mean glass of single malt scotches or fine whiskeys. These NYC bars feature an extensive selection of the adult beverage that is perfect to sip on a cold winter night.

The Whiskey Ward: Located just three blocks from the Williamsburg Bridge, this Lower East Side saloon is decorated with many whiskey jugs and barrels that really do a good job to set the drinking mood. The amazingly extensive list of whiskeys include bourbons, rye, Irish whiskey, single malts, un-chill filtered scotch, and many more. The scene is a mixture of serious sippers and amateur drinkers and the prices are reasonable. 121 Essex Street. Stay nearby at the Hotel on Rivington or the Thompson L.E.S.

Rivington Street in Lower East Side Manhattan, home to Mama Spa & Priti

There’s certainly no shortage of places to get massaged, scrubbed and buffed to a high gloss shine in the Big Apple: New York Magazine has lists 682 spas and salons in Manhattan alone, without countless smaller venues still waiting to be profiled.

Surprisingly though, if you’re staying at one of the newer hotels in the Lower East Side—Hotel On Rivington, Thomson LES, Gem Hotel SoHo, for example—you may find it tougher to suss out the best spots (or any spots, really) to get your relaxation on. Don’t stress. While this neighborhood’s spa gems are a bit tougher to spot, they’re worth the extra effort takes to locate them.
