Couples getaways can be great. But, unfortunately, they can feel more like a job if you’re bringing a needy girlfriend along. No judgement here; we get that you love your girlfriend, but a few hours of peace and quiet will allow you to fully soak up the benefits of a vacation. This is where we, as Oyster.com hotel experts, come in to help. While we don’t have direct experience with handling a needy girlfriend, we may have been that girl once or twice. (Is wanting your boyfriend to be hyper-attentive soo much to ask?? But we digress…) So who better than us to give you the low-down on the most distractable hotels and amenities? We may be committing a major breach of girl code, but here goes. Check out our top 5 hotels for distracting a needy girlfriend — and enjoy your 5-minutes peace!

Hotel: Atlantis Paradise Island Resort; Bahamas

Girlfriend Type: Shopaholic

Why It’ll Distract Her: If your needy girlfriend is shopping-inclined, then you’re guaranteed some alone time at the Atlantis. With more features than any other hotel in the Caribbean, the resort has over 100 shops; everything from Atlantis logo stores, stuffed with t-shirts, bags, and hats, to high-end designer shops like Salvatore Ferragamo and Bvlgari. Hey, we didn’t say this would be cheap.

Alone Time It Earns You: We’d say at least three hours. If you lend her your credit card for the afternoon, that grants you two more (and probably some debt to boot). Use your alone time to win that money back at the elaborate casino. Or check out the dolphin show; it’s pretty awesome.

We’ve been a bit obsessed with the City of Sin as of late (Maybe it’s because we’re dying to go!), but with its inflated room rates and over-the-top glitz, we can’t afford to always go gamble in Vegas. Thankfully, there are some pretty sweet casinos far off the Strip (and we mean far) where you can still win — or lose — some big bucks. Check out our seven favorites and take a chance at one of these spots.

THE HOTEL: The Trump Taj Mahal; Atlantic City, NJ

WHY GAMBLE HERE: Although gaudy and dated in terms of its decor, the Taj offers up a huge casino over 3500 slot machines and 200 table games. There’s also a Baccarat pit, poker room and a Simulcast facility to place your racing bets.  Plus, the hotel has a prime spot on the beach boardwalk and has a wide range of dining options, including the upscale Italian restaurant (and editor favorite) Il Mulino.

Pool at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa

Still looking for a New Year’s Eve party for this weekend? This behemoth hotel and casino on the outskirts of Atlantic City is a hub of entertainment, and arguably the city’s premier destination. The 2000-room property (which opened in 2003) overlooks a marina at Renaissance Pointe. Floor-to-ceiling windows keep rooms bright, and suites are well-appointed with comfortable bedding, large iPod docks, large marble bathrooms with large soaking tubs, and fantastic views of the marina. Entertainment is outstanding, from celebrity chef restaurants — including Bobby Flay Steak and Wolfgang Puck American Grille — to an Italian-inspired indoor pool, plenty of shops, a performance hall that hosts musical guests and comedians, and spa treatments. While it’s not directly on the famous Atlantic City boardwalk, the on-site casino clocks in at a massive 161,000 square feet, giving guests plenty to do without needing to venture out. It easily stands out as one of the most refined properties in the area. Read the full review >>
