In our last installment of “Brand Wars,” we introduced you to some of the world’s hottest hotel designers. The design is a big part of what makes a hotel great, but a hotel must also pay attention to all of the small details to stand out in the luxury market — such as the brand of its toiletries. Luxurious shampoos, conditioners, lotion, and more can make your morning shower much more than routine. Below, see how these toiletry brands stack up!

Street at the Omni Parker House

Although time travel has not been invented, we here at Oyster can still take you back to the days when Paul Revere trotted along on his horse and George Washington planted big, sloppy, wooden kisses on Martha. Last week, we gave you a look inside the past lives of three of our favorite historic hotels. After the jump, check out four more hotels that have been around to witness momentous events in our nation’s past and played host to political figures, celebrities, and world-famous athletes. Luckily for you, these hotels are all on sale for Labor Day, so you can experience a bit of history and save a little cash.

Stairs at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino

Now that Mexico’s Jimena Navarrete has been crowned Miss Universe and the ladies (and pageant host Bret Michaels) have left Las Vegas, the city has returned to normal — well, as normal as Vegas gets. But while the international beauties were in town, they rested their well-groomed heads at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, where the televised competition was held on Monday night. The contestants participated in charitable and promotional events at the hotel, but ventured elsewhere for entertainment. After the jump, check out where the ladies stayed and played during their 3-week stint in Sin City!

Oyster is so hot in Chicago right now! Not too long ago, our CEO Elie Seidman appeared on Fox Chicago News, and last week, he was interviewed on WGN Chicago. He showed viewers some of our Photo Fakeouts and told Chicagoland why hotel guests should be careful about judging a hotel based on marketing images from other hotel sites. Because we have visited all of the hotels on our site, we can show you what you can really expect during your stay based on our own experiences.

Street at the Rockhouse Hotel

Entrance at Metropole South Beach

On this season of MTV’s Jersey Shore, the cast escapes a blustery winter on the Shore and migrates south, shacking up at the Metropole South Beach in Miami. The 42-suite boutique property did not accept reservations “due to high demand” while the show was filming earlier this year, but now that Jersey Shore has returned to, well, the Jersey Shore, the hotel is open for business once again. So if you’re planning a hair-gelling, GTL-ing, fist-pumping good time, here’s the situation you can expect to find at the Metropole.

Check out our photos of the Metropole South Beach!

Entrance at The Plaza

Fashion Week is about to descend upon us (and by “us,” I mean the city of New York) again — but this time, all of the designers, models, and celebrities (and the media frenzy that follows) will swarm around Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center instead of Bryant Park, where the iconic, white-tented event had previously been held since 1994. For this year’s Fall 2010 Fashion Week (which, confusingly, was held in February), we brought you six Fashion Week hotels to suit your style. But we expect that your style may have changed since then, so we have prepared a new list of hotels that will fit your fancy for September’s Spring 2011 Fashion Week. And if you like what you see, book with us! Read More »

Saying good-bye to your college-bound child can be difficult — and finding a hotel for move-in day in Boston ain’t easy, either. Luckily for you, we’ve done the leg work and found some hotels in Boston that still have rooms available for the city’s busiest time of year. And while we can’t help you cope with the idea of an empty nest, we certainly hope that deciding on a place to stay for move-in day will make the transition a little easier. Read More »
